Our Parish will organise a pilgrimage to Italy (Venice, Padua, Milan, Turin, Assisi and Rome) from April 24th 2022 to May 5th. Kindly check the attached document for more details. This pilgrimage is organised in collaboration with GLOBUS – well known for global tours and travels. But we have our local Edmonton based Lobo travel agency which will assist us locally with this tour. In the background of the ongoing pandemic, we have been adviced to have a good insurance coverage from day one which will be of great benefit should the tour be dropped for one reason or the other. Day 1 – 25 Apr (Mon) – ARRIVE VENICE, ITALY.
On arrival transfer to the hotel and check in. Spend free time exploring the city on your own before meeting your tour companions and Tour Director for an included welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)
Day 2 – 26 Apr (Tue) – VENICE. EXCURSION TO PADUA.
Attend morning Mass at ST. ANTHONY BASILICA in Padua and enjoy a visit with a local guide, followed by a short city sightseeing and time on your own. This afternoon, take a PRIVATE BOAT and meet your Local Guide for a walking tour featuring visits to ST. MARK’S SQUARE and its Byzantine BASILICA, and lavish DOGES’ PALACE with the famous BRIDGE OF SIGHS. (B, D)
Day 3 – 27 Apr (Wed) – VENICE-MILAN.
Dedicate the morning to Milan’s most important Catholic churches: ST AMBROSE BASILICA and the DUOMO. Rest of the day at leisure. (B, D)
Day 4 – 28 Apr (Thu) – MILAN-TURIN.
Turin is known in the Catholic community worldwide as the home of the Holy Shroud, only available to the public on very special occasions, and St. John Bosco, the priest who founded the Salesian religious institute. Your visit includes the HOLY SHROUD MUSEUM, the BASILICA OF ST. MARY AUSILIATRICE. (B, D)
Day 5 – 29 Apr (Fri) – TURIN.
Full day at leisure to explore the city – places of interest to St. John Bosco and St. Dominic Savio. (B, D)
Day 6 – 30 Apr (Sat) – TURIN-PISA-FLORENCE.
This morning travel to Pisa and marvel at the Leaning Tower on your way to Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance.” Meet your Local Guide and visit the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo’s celebrated David. Continue your walking tour through the historic centre and stand in awe in front of the magnificent cathedral, admire Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gates of Paradise,” sculpture- studded SIGNORIA SQUARE, and take pictures of Ponte Vecchio. Tonight, enjoy local specialties on a dinner outing to a fine Tuscan restaurant. (B, D)
Day 7 – 1 May (Sun) – FLORENCE-ASSISI.
Today, arrive in peaceful Assisi, where your Local Guide accompanies you on a visit to ST. CLARE’S CHURCH and ST. FRANCIS’ BASILICA, built on top of his tomb—the hub of a religious order devoted to the ideals of humility, forgiveness, simplicity, and love for all God’s creatures. Hear about monastic life and admire the priceless frescoes adorning the walls of the church. (B, D)
Day 8 – 2 May (Mon) – ASSISI-ROME.
Today, enjoy views of other major sites as you drive to the Roman Forum and visit the ancient COLOSSEUM, where gladiators once fought. Overnight Rome. (B, D)
Day 9 – 3 May (Tue) –ROME.
Guided sightseeing of the ‘Eternal City’ starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL with Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgment, followed by a visit to monumental ST. PETER’S SQUARE and BASILICA to admire Michelangelo’s Pietà. An optional walking tour with a Local Guide is available to further explore Rome’s famous landmarks. (B, D)
Day 10 – 4 May (Wed) – ROME.
Today you have the unique chance to attend the PAPAL AUDIENCE in the Vatican (subject to availability). Afterwards, enjoy an included city tour with a local guide to see the BASILICA OF ST. PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALLS, where St. Paul was buried after his martyrdom, ST. JOHN LATERAN BASILICA, the Cathedral of Rome and the seat of its Bishop (the Pope) famous for the Holy Stairs. Said to have led Jesus to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate, the stairs were transferred to Rome by St. Empress Helena. Finally, visit ST. MARY MAJOR BASILICA, where a reliquary contains wood from the Holy Crib. (B, D)
