Holy Communion

Jesus said, “I am the living bread which has come down from Heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.” (Gospel of John chapter 6 verses 5 and following)

The Eucharist is the centre of all the Sacraments and prayer of the Church. Holy Communion is receiving Jesus in our heart. He is the source of all God’s graces. In every Mass we as Catholics are invited to share in the heavenly banquet. We must keep our hearts pure and free from sin to receive Jesus. Consider these two points of reflection.

1. For First Holy Communion, children in grade two or older who have made their First Reconciliation prepare from February to May. For more information we offer a parents meeting which is announced in our bulletin. Please refer to the “Parish News“ page for a complete list of sacramental preparation dates. All Catholic parents will teach their children by their good example in attending Mass every Sunday with their families.

2. The Church considers Holy Communion as a sign of being united with God and the Catholic community. Catholics who committed serious sins should go to confession before being admitted to Holy Communion. Also, Catholic couples living together without a true Catholic marriage need to have their marriage validated and blessed in the Church to receive Communion in order to be truly a sign if Jesus’ love for his bride the Church.
